Since the end of the campaign, Quantz was the subject of an internal investigation. He claims he was passed over for reinstatement on the sheriff's SWAT team after having served on it for 13 years.

Last fall, Quantz and Thurston County sheriff's Lt. Ed Thompson challenged Edwards in a what became a messy race. After losing the primary, Thompson urged voters to support Quantz in the general election. Quantz declined to comment this week, but his attorney, J. Smith of the Tacoma firm of Gordon, Thomas, Honeywell and Malanca, said that Quantz and Thompson remain employed by the sheriff's department.

Smith said he plans to file the tort claim in Thurston County Superior Court in about two months. We follow all the guidelines all the time. We've got nothing to hide. Thompson also filed a claim against the county and his supervisors alleging ongoing harassment and retaliation that has made the workplace a hostile environment.
